windows - alchemy

This unique mirror is the first of our Windows series. The top section features back painted glass in the four symbolic alchemical colours - black, white, yellow and red. The minimalist design and colours reference the work of Ellsworth Kelly (1923 - 2015), who made a series of works based on windows he had seen in Paris between 1949 and 1950.

The hand finished and painted poplar wood frame features six muted colours. All from the Farrow & Ball range they are Studio Green, Stiffkey Blue, Downpipe, Pelt, Brinjal and Railings.  They contrast and emphasise the bright, pure colours of the windows. Within the central tray section of the frame floats a mirror panel with polished edges, the interior is coated with graphite. This mirror has an integral split batten at the top of the frame enabling secure, flush, mounting to the wall. The
frame is also dated, stamped and signed on the reverse.

The first slide image features Alchemy displayed with two screen prints by Barbra Rae, RA courtesy of IAP Fine Art.
