ru ware variation no.1
This was the first in a series of modular, multi-part works combining mirrors and hand painted painted panels we started in 2020.
The panels and polished edged mirrors were all housed in hand finished, white stained and lime waxed solid ash tray frames with a minimal 6mm face. The panel colours for this unique set were inspired by a multi part painting by the American artist Brice Marden (1938 - 2023). This is titled The Ru Ware Project (2007 - 2012), which he based on the colours of rare, ancient Chinese ceramics. For this modular mirror we chose to use the lovely chalky blue and green colours from the range by Edward Bulmer.
Brice Marden's painting is in nine parts and is composed in a horizontal line, this set is in five parts. Here the painted panels and mirror can be displayed in varying numbers and combinations and can be easily changed when desired. Each frame has split battens on the reverse for secure, flush fixing to the wall. Each module is stamped, signed and dated on the reverse.
