octagon (4 blues)
This commission was for a guest bedroom in a north London home. The bedroom has a vintage mahogany dresser and features various shades of blue in the fixtures and furniture. A Maggi Hambling screen print, again with a vivid blue - Portrait of Derek Jarman - hangs on one wall.
The mirror was designed and made to our clients specifications. It now hangs over the dresser at the entrance to the room - the ash wood frame was custom stained to match the mahogany colour. The mirror design is inspired by the Swiss artist and designer Max Bill (1908 - 1994). We have referenced Bill with our Quadrant Mirrors but this is the first time we have utilised an octagonal shape.
The mirror's four corner panels were individually hand painted using artist's acrylic. Each blue is slightly different in tone. These painted panels are secured in the frame with small screws, so they are detachable. If our client should wish to replace the blues with a different set of colours we can easily do so. The mirror has integral split battens on all four sides so the mirror can be rotated and displayed in either a diamond or square orientation. The battens also ensure it hangs flush to the wall.
This unique mirror is signed and dated on the reverse. Size: 710 x 710 x 35mm. Weight: 6kg.
This mirror can also be made in different woods with any combination of colours on the panels. If you are interested in having a mirror made to order based on this design, or any of the others on our site, contact us.
