the N1 mirror

This bespoke commissioned mirror was designed for a study in a flat in the Clerkenwell area of London The room is white with dark grey metal framed internal windows and fixtures. A particular feature of the study is a wall with white wooden slats.
This commission was created in close consultation with our client. The mirror was inspired by the work of Donald Judd (1928 - 1994) who used panels with strips in his wall sculptures.

We created this mirror to our clients specifications - it is 800 x 1000mm in size. Featuring a tray frame in pale poplar wood, the edges were stained white and lime waxed. The face of the frame was then painted with graphite. We cut a series of 10 x 6mm wood strips which were treated to match the white poplar frame. These white strips were arranged in a spiral over the graphite face. The interior of the frame was also coated in graphite and float mounted within is a 4mm mirror with polished edges.

The mirror frame has integral split battens on all four sides so the mirror can be displayed as landscape or portrait. These battens are raised slightly so the mirror frame itself appears to float on the wall.

This is a variation on our strip mirrors and is a good example of how our standard designs are open to customisation.
The mirror is of course unique, and site specific. The
frame is stamped and signed and dated on the reverse.
