gold & blue shelf mirror
This mirror was commissioned for the guest bedroom in a London house. Having viewed our natural wood coloured shelf mirrors, the client requested a bespoke modified version. The mirror was constructed to a specific size, with an oak veneer insert in the shelf. It is inspired the the French artist Yves Klein (1928 - 1962) who used blue and gold in his work.
The frame and shelf were constructed in ash wood, this was stained in white and then lime waxed. The shelf insert is back painted glass, we used Mazarine by Little Green. We also used this blue to paint the inside of the frame rebate which the mirror reflects. The three specific blues on the post and lintel facing strips were painted in hand mixed Liquitex artist's acrylic. We will add photographs of the mirror in its new home in due course.
The shelf mirror has an integral split batten along the top of the frame ensuring it is stable and hangs flush to the wall. It is signed and dated on the reverse. Size: 800 x 6000 x 165mm. Shelf area: 130 x 590mm Weight: 10kg.
