after albers I

The first mirror in an ongoing set of variations on the work of Josef Albers (1888 - 1976), specifically his Homage to the Square.
This version references the painting Persistent (1960) and is part of our own studio collection. We will be making a second version for sale of this particular design in the coming months.

A gold mirror is set within three nested squares, hand painted on board with Liquitex acrylic. The paint has been applied with a palette knife, using the same technique as Albers himself. The mirrored panel is framed in poplar wood hand painted in Inchyra Blue from Farrow & Ball. The gold mirror has polished edges and measures 400 x 400mm in size. On the reverse of the frame is an integral split batten enabling the work to hang both securely and flush to the wall. This mirror is unique, and is signed and dated on the reverse.

Size: 840 x 480 x 32mm. Weight 4kg.
