a mirror for méret oppenheim
This mirror was inspired by the Surrealist sculpture Object, Paris.1936 (also known as Le Déjeuner en fourrure). The sculpture, now in the collection of MOMA New York, is by the Swiss artist and photographer Méret Oppenheim (1913 - 1985). It consists of a tea cup, saucer and teaspoon which the artist covered with short haired fur. The idea came to her following a conversation at a Paris café with Pablo Picasso and Dora Maar.
The ornate frame was constructed in solid poplar wood, hand finished and painted in Pavilion Gray from Farrow & Ball. This is a box frame - the interior has been lined with brown faux fur and the protective glass is anti-reflective and also has a UV protective coating.
